Sabelo Mthembu
Sabelo Mthembu is a musically dynamic South African singer and songwriter whose music oozes high standards of excellence with strong traces of Afro-Jazz, soul, classical and world music. Songs of Brotherhood, his debut album project, was released in February 2013. Since the launch, Sabelo has been receiving great reviews and exposure from the media. In 2015, his single Angiphili Mawungekho peaked at number 2 on the iTunes SA Jazz Charts and the album was on the top 100 favourite albums on iTunes SA Jazz in 2017. In July 2017, he successfully hosted An Evening with Sabelo Mthembu in which he successfully filled up Soweto Theatre. Sabelo began his conducting career at church at a very young age. His love for choral music saw him grow his skill as a conductor and music director. After leaving the University of Johannesburg Choir in 2008, he co-founded an ensemble called Quava Vocal Group. Since its formation, the choir has grown from strength to strength and from only having 6 singers to now 23 strong singers. The choir has performed with many choirs in South Africa and beyond. It ' s greatest highlight has been winning two gold medals in the open competition of the World Choir Games held in Tshwane in July 2018. Not only is he a singer and conductor, but Sabelo is also an award winning choral composer.
